flexlm spoof mac

I Had always wanted to have a "portable centralised license server"
that i coud take with me and install in a different machine if i wanted .
I manage to accomplish just that.
I got a USB drive .Now they are as big a 250M .Enough to contain
Modelsim,Symplicity...and others And all the Flexlm tools
The second move was to get a USB->Ethernet adaptor .I got one not very expensive .Then i generated all the licenses for all the soft that i use(A LOT) based on the mac for that ethernet adaptor. Some floating and some Fixed
I finally made a cap for the Ethernet connector (Transmitter lines go the receiver) And Voila I have my own personal dongle.
Now i can move it from one computer to another along with the soft
If i need software more space i can always get another USB drive..
I also used a tiny USB HUB to connect the USB drive and the ethernet adaptor..
All that now is required in the computers is the LM_LICENSE_FILE = to point to whatever the USB drive is mapped to.

My next step is to get another USB-> Ethernet adaptor and see if i can clone the mac adress .So i can make several dongles

flexlm mac address

Hi John,

That's a clever idea !!!

Could you explain it in detail ?
For examples, i don't quite understand about "Ethernet connector (Transmitter lines go the receiver)" ??

Besides, where do you connect your USB license server to PC? Via USB port or ethernet port ?

Thank you for your sharing : )

move license server flexlm

Hi Sunjummy:
Listen is very simple!!.Y connect my "USB attachement" to the computer USB ..And because is plug and play it detects my USB to ethernet ..Now the computer sees another Ethernet controller ... Well i use only this one just for the MAC address .. y don't even give an ip number..But you could
Now in order for the Flexlm server ..(That is running off the USB drive ..) to detect the USB-ethernet there must be cable connected to the ethernet
port .But because i just want to use it as "dongle"(to provide a MAC address to flexlm) .I built a cap by just connecting the 2 transmitter lines to the 2 reciving lines .I loop it back, then the little light in the ethernet adaptor cames on!
You could simple just plug it to a ethernet hub ..

now i'm witting a script that will to the path setting for the server and lauch it all by just pluging the device in any particular computer..

flexlm mac id spoofing

Hi eltonjohn,

you can spoof the MAC address with the tool SMAC. You can download the tool at w*w*w.klcconsulting.net/Change_MAC_w2k.htm. I have tested the tool; Flexlm is only using the MAC address from the registry. Hostid shows the spoofed address.

How did you generate all the licenses?

Good luck

flexnet usb dongle clone

HMAIER :
Thanks buddy for that incredible tip . It means that I now don't need to modify any phisical harware in the USB->ethernet .Also it means that i can go and buy more of these USB ethermets an clone all the licenses.

spoof mac address flexlm

From www.fiberlinenetworks.com is the adapter FL-UFE1800 available. This adapter uses the ADM8513 chip from ADMtek (www.admtek.com.tw).

For the ADM8513 are the tools to change the MAC freely available.
