Re: RS232

8051 Microcolntrollers by Mazidi is excellent

Added after 3 minutes:

In telecommunications, RS-232 is a standard for serial binary data interconnection between a DTE (Data terminal equipment) and a DCE (Data Circuit-terminating Equipment). It is commonly used in computer serial ports. A similar ITU-T standard is V.24. The standard was originally promulgated by RETMA, a precursor of the Electronic Industries Alliance. RS is an abbreviation for RETMA Standard.

Re: RS232

I strongly recommend the following website,
https://www.beyondlogic.org/
They have details on RS232 serial communication for hardware to software,
and it is very easy to read and understand.

If you want to implement RS232 serial communication
on PIC microcontroller PIC16F877a from microchip,
you can refer the following website for further circuit reference,

Hopes these informations are helpful.

Re: RS232

For pc com port logic is in +12v/-12 but mc have logic is in +5v/0v.
For proper interface a chip MXM232 is used for polarity convertion
This short information can help you for farther reading.

I guess you mean MAX232 from Maxim
