Planets are some things that revolve around a star in particular orbit and it is a fully developed that is it has to have a constant 'g' value mass , diameter etc..
It should not have its path intersecting another planets path.Since the above reasons where not satisfied by pluto it was stripped away from its status as planet in the Solar System.Its path actually intersects the path of Neptune at a certain period of its year...
The International Astronomical Union defines "planet" as a celestial body that, within the Solar System,[1]
(a) is in orbit around the Sun;
(b) has sufficient mass for its self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a hydrostatic equilibrium (nearly round) shape; and
(c) has cleared the neighbourhood around its orbit;
or within another system,[2]
(i) is in orbit around a star or stellar remnants;
(ii) has a mass below the limiting mass for thermonuclear fusion of deuterium; and
(iii) is above the minimum mass/size requirement for planetary status in the Solar System.

but for commpleteness and better understanding, it needs to notice the meanings of Star and Satellite and Moon and ... ( that may confuse you ).
for this purpose , I think encyclopedias especially in the area of astronomy are sufficent and good.
in the internet, wikipedia is free and good.
