hi everyone,
i am trying to design two sinuous antennas, from 1Ghz to 2Ghz and from 2Ghz to 4Ghz... actually i need a freq. range from 1-4 Ghz but i am going for two antennas due to the problems associated with the design for LNA and BALUN for a 1:4 antenna....

could anyone suggest which would be the best tools for designing and simulating a sinuous antenna.. the reason i ask is that a sinuous antenna structure is based on an sinous equation, so the tool has to have cad-like capabilities...

can it be done in HFSS or ADS??

Hi wiztronix, you may consider FEKO (www.feko.info) for this purpose. I know several FEKO users have successfully simulated/designed such structures. Attached please find some papers by them. Good luck.

thanks rayfeko! d'loading the papers now.. they'll be useful!! pressed the helped me button for you!!

i need a phd or MSc thesis from UMI about this subject:
simulation of Sinuous antennas by FDTD method or other methods
regrds

anyone have the hfss simulation files of ultra wide band sinuous antenna

]Hi Wiztronix,

Sinuous antennas covering this band in a single antenna are practical. They are commercially available (Sinuous Antennas) as well as Cobham. There are other sources, but these will not break your bank.

My preference would be to use HFSS (64 bit OS and plenty of RAM.) FEKO is an alternate and like you I have heard claims of success although wonder if baluns and cavities were modeled or was the sinuous fed with lumped element ports? HFSS has a wizard that may help drawing a sinuous face.

Antenna Handbook (third edition) has a chapter on spirals (and sinuous) that may be helpful. The section fell out of the fourth (Volakis) edition. I don't know why. Mosko and Corzine is another useful reference too.

This thread may be of interest: https://www.edaboard.com/threads/13675/

I would be interested to hear how this goes for you.

Regards,

Azulykit
