Can we say that ABV is a part of DFT in a general sense?

Can we say that assertion-based verification is a part of design-for-test in a general sense? I mean that the main idea of both directions is to create bugless products.

Or if these terms (DFT and ABV) are principally diffirent how can we name the mainstream cocerning with developing efficient (able to work) electronic systems, considering hardware and software ingredients.

Interesting analogy, yes both are trying to "add something inside design" to enable bugfree product. However ABV is more for "verification" and DFT is for Testing - meaning once the silicon is out, to test for manufacturing defect etc.

Assertions don't get synthesized (usually, though some research/thoughts are going on to make them so to assist in emulation, post silicon debug etc.).

DFT does get synthesized, infact mostly after synthesis the scan chains get inserted.

I'm not clear on this question.

DFT & ABV

aji_vlsi, thanks for your answer. I'm working on my Ph.D. thesis "Design for Test, Verification and Manufacture" (draft title) and now trying to systematize hierarchy and terminology of modern methodologies and instruments concerning with designing bugless projects. At first I want to examine a wide set of questions - assertions (SVA, OVL, PSL...), boundary-scan (JTAG 1149.1, 1149.6, 1149.4) ...

I'm trying to find most suitable title for my Ph.D. thesis that cover first of all DFT and ABV.

Assertions don't get synthesized (usually, though some research/thoughts are going on to make them so to assist in emulation, post silicon debug etc.).
Can you please post any link describing such research?

DFT & ABV

Well now, there is another interesting question -

For example, let us assume that we have an ASIC project written on HDL and also we must involve boundary scan cells into project. What kind of persons within design team have to solve such problems (I mean to embed assertions into HDL-project and to develop algorithms of BST)? Verification Engineers? Developers? Test Engineers? Or someone else?
