I think OFDM combined with MIMO would be the core in 4G.

Regards

In downlink, it seems to be so.

In uplink, most companies advocate single-carrier transmission due to the high PAPR of OFDM.

This combination is found in the evoluation of WCDMA and CDMA2000 systems.

Combination of multi-carrier techniques (such as OFDM ) and spread spectrum (CDMA) is the base of 4G systems .(MC-CDMA)
4G systems have the benefits of both multicarrier and CDMA ,namely : reduced sensitivity to ISI and ICI , optimum use of available bandwidth , more security and reduction of the effects of jamming an interference signals.
