Hello
I am studying a communication engineering my Bsc project is about planing a wimax network , as you know this is a new teachnology and there is no enough data and resources about it .

the chapters of my project are :-
chapter1: Introduction
chapter2: WiMAX technology overview
chapter3: WiMAX solutions
chapter4: Design a WiMAX network
chapter5: case study
chapter6: concusion

now i have a problem with a case study i don't khow how to start .
if you have any ideas or a real case studies ,please help me with it ,I will be very thankfull.

best regards

Re: WiMAX case study

hi,

I am studying a communication engineering my Bsc project is about planing a wimax network too.

about the case study it is very hard.
you can do a case study about planning and implementing a wimax at your city including hospitals, schools, wimax hot spot and so on.....
however to do this you need a simulation tool to test QOS,RF interferrence, to get a practical results and usually this simulation tools are very expensive $$$

my doctor ask me a question:
Since you said that you are really interested in doing work about Wimax, then what is that work you could do since this technology is being offered in the market for the users?

so friends please help

IEEE2006

your diploma thesis is pretty much like mine. And i have a very similar problem. In my case study i will be trying to design a wimax network for my citiy. Celje, Slovenia. I am working on diferent scenarios of use, trying to calculate how many BS i need to cover the whole city. I wont be doing micro environment case study though. It would take too much time, and like said by ramisalems post, pretty expensive computer tools.

What do you have in mind for your case study?

Re: WiMAX case study

hello
i have some quistion for you mare
1) which service you want your network to offer ?
2) which standard are you working with d or e ?
3) what is your BS characteristics ?
4) do you have any formula to calculate the number of BS ?
5) what are your design considarations?

if your design is RF design only so you can calculate the link budget .

be contact
best regards

Re: WiMAX case study

i'm also doing my graduation project in such field, is there a good book regarding this subject? also is there a provider providing wimax equipmens,i wanna make a coverage for only the university hospitals

WiMAX case study

Hi
try to read this book "The Business of WiMax "

Re: WiMAX case study

Hi all,

It sounds very interesting what you are talking about.
However, WiMAX is really very new, and until now i cannot see the benefit of it. The real world will real change when it comes to mobility (802.16e). In the mean time it is best used as a backhaul for WiFi networks.
I still agree that the tools used for RF desgining is quit expensive. However, the concept is very similar to GSM networks. But of course the penetration will be weaker although the range is more longer (up to 30Km).
Iam afraid, but real case studies will not be that easy!!
Good luck guys with your projects

Re: WiMAX case study

Hi!

For a very first analysis of the number of the BTS you need to cover the area
you could use a link budget (you can wrote your own using excel) and from that
obtain the cell radious.
If you know the area to cover, you know how many BTS you need.
This is a good starting point, then you have to take into accout a capacity
planning that could increase the number of BTS.

This could be done without high price planning tool!!
Try it, this is valid for any kind of network of course.
Ciao
