dc machines pdf

Hi all,

does anyone have any links where i can seek information about the need for using starters for starting d.c machines and how they control staring currents. With relevent circuit diagrams.

Having trouble finding this information through links.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Starting current is quite high for electrical motor. I encountered such problem before. I solved the problem by limiting the voltage supplied to the motor. During the start, I reduced the duty cycle of the pwm signal that drove the dc motor drive.

hi thanks for the reply but i was hoping for a link with more info?

does anyone know of any?:D

objective questions d c machines

i feel we don't have that good refrences in machines on this forum so why not lets make this topic a popular one i am also looking for some good books.....on this one

strating of dc machines

Hi
dcmachines starting will be excellently described in the P S Bimbra
electrical machinery
u can find a lot of help form that the book
i know some methods
u can use resistor control method while starting them
i think 3 point switch method is good
ok i think this would help u

P.S.Bhimbra is more of a theorietical can you refer some others

Sorry but I dont have any good reference to share with you. But let me share how we use starting resistors when starting DC motors. As they have pointed out, current during starting is large which will damage the motor. We use starting resistors, usually 3-4 resistors. The process is actually step-starting, at initial starting all resistors are in series with the motor, thus limiting the current considerably. Then, after sometime, one resistor will be shorted, then another, and another until all the resistors are by-passed and the motor is at its rated speed. The shorting of the resistors are done with timers. Sizing the starting resistors are dependent on the motor parameters.

Hi all,

Can I get Electrical Machinery by P S Bhimbra ebook anywhere. Please help in this.

Thanks in advance for your help
