How can design shape "a" of below picture in Protel DXP 2004?

You cannot automatically mitre tracks using Protel DXP2004. You could approximate this type of track by using a track segment of a different width at the corner; however, it is pretty much a waste of time unless your tracks are very wide.

The effect of 90 degree corners on high speed/high frequency signals is negligible unless the track is wide enough for the added piece of copper at the outside corner to contribute a significant increase in capacitance at that point. There are several online references that discuss this. I have attached a couple of example articles.

What DXP2004 CAN do is route with 45deg or rounded corners. The style of routing corner is toggled using Shift+Space. Either 45deg or rounded is satisfactory for microwave. Changing the rule as suggested above only affects autorouting - it does nothing for interactive manual track placement (use Shift+ Space for interactive routing).

Hi,

You cant make the track like in fig a automatically, but you can make it manually using fills. Just try it out if not succeed than I will tell you. I had designed more than 30 boards with this type of shapes. It is the requirement of RF PCBs.

Hi,
Mitred tracks commonly used in RF circuitry for impedance matching stages, transmission lines and microstrips. Protel does not support mitred tracks as said before.
You can use fills to 'create' the mitred track but how are you going to know it is of the right impedance value? (matched impedance).
What I did was to find out the exact dimensions and create a library part of it.
RF tracks routing usually found on more expensive package such as Mentor Graphic, Allegro, Zuken to name a few.
Anyone know how to do this in Protel (or import form other software) pls share.

Fills are the easiest way to do it, say take a .8 mm rectangular fill and place another .8 rectangular fill on one end, the correct dimension for the mitre is the diagonal of the square where the 2 ends meet - using a grid it should not be difficult to create the right shape - interestingly enough, the mitred track has shown through measurements to be preferable to figure "B" unless the radius is less than 3x the width of the track.

Is there a paper published somewhere with those results, and discussing the measurement setup? Most of the published information to date is theory and speculation unsupported by proper experimental verification.

I know what you are thinking, I totally disagreed with this approach, from a purely physical standpoint the shaved corner would appear to represent a higher impedance than the rest of the line, I considered a 45 to be a lot more desirable, and it probably is until you start playing with analog microwave - it is described in the book:
