What is the effect of not enabling power control in GSM?

power control in GSM

Hello,
does anyone got any idea about the effect of not enabling power control in GSM ( uplinlk or DL or both)..i thought about near far effect that near user will block signals of far users from BTS but someone told me that this won't be done due to presence of different carriers..
so anyone got any info about this topic please help

Power control has basically two major uses . one is to increase battery life of the mobile which by disabling power control can be effected. other and more important factor is interference. Enabled power control generally decreases interference in a network.
