what is Equalization?
why it is needed ?
what is timedomain and Frequency domain Equalization?

whenever a signal passes through a filter or any other reactive network, there will be some amount of phase distortion, to compensate the phase distortion, we use a equlizer

Equalization in digital comm is the process by which the distortion (phase or frequency) caused to a transmitted signal by the channel is equalized by useing filters etc.

The over all transfer function of a transceiver with the channel is
ht(f)hc(f)hr(f)heq(f)
where ht(f) and hr(f) are the transmitter and receiver transfer functions which are usually matched
But the channel transfer function hc(f) is non-linear and distorts the signal...to cater for this distortion the equalizer transfer function is 1/hc(f) so that hc(f)heq(f)=1.
I hope this helps....

Just to add to what Gunsuresh said.
There are all kinds of equalizers. What kind are you asking about?
For example, in audio there are frequency domain equalizers that control the gain in groups of frequency bands. I'm sure you've seen them in car stereos. These equalizers are used to compensate for losses in speakers at different frequencies or to compensate for listener hearing losses or to just accentuate a frequency range (ie - more bass).

frequency domain equalizers are much simpler that time domain equalizers.
In OFDM we implement equalizer after FFT,so here frequency domain equalizer is a simple Equalizer = FFT out/(CHannel Estimate) .
