What are the general rules for derateing resistors for pulse discharges?
I have a 5 watt 22ohm resistor that I'd like to use as a load for a test circuit. It's a 300 volt 80u capacitor. But fully charged the capacitor will produce an average of 1000watts (5kw peak) over a 5ms period (A little over 4 joules) This is only 4 watts over a period of 1 second but I'm expecting it to explode if I actually do it. Is there any kind of guidelines to use?
