How does Linux and Windows support dual core PCs?

If install Linux on a dual core NoteBook or PC, then will it can support 2 CPU operation for Linux programs ?

I just like to know whether dual core is supported in Windows as well as in Linux or not.

Dual core NB/PC ?

For Linux,
If you install 32-bit Linux, you can pick the smp kernel and it behaves the same as a two-cpu system. If you install 64-bit Linux, it supports multiprocessor automatically, i.e., no smp kernel required!

For Windows,
Windows XP PRO x64 Edition can identify 2 CPUs. The 32-bit version should be able to as well.
