Hello everyone

I am trying to build an FM transmitter with PLL that can broadcast on 88.0Mhz to 108.0Mhz in 0.1Mhz increment, but I am not sure how to start building it.
Some questions that I have;

1) Is there any link or book that I can read about how to design this kind of project, or give out schematic?

2) Do I have to build an FM transmitter then send a signal to PLL circuit as a reference signal? ( Can I use this schemetic for FM tranmitter? **broken link removed** )

3) Some free sample chips that I have are MAX2606 (VCO) and CDC2510APWR (PLL). Are they good for doing this project? Any other recomendation?

Thank you in advance for any help. :D

If I had to walk up to a whiteboard and start drawing without any real research, I would use the VCO and PLL for my LO section (I'm guessing the PLL has the programming part for frequency selection), use a pic for freq control via i2s (?) and then simply build a 10.7 MHz oscillator (another VCO) and tie the audio into the varacts... OR, to get really dirty, build a simple 10.7MHz oscillator, and tie the audio straight to the hi-z pin of the crystal (yea, REaally ugly, but it works). then, to maintain the uglyness (why stop now), use a simple diode mixer, then AC bias that into a non shockty gate/buffer, connect a long wire from the output of that buffer as an antenna, and you have a toy radio transmitter suitable for the kids... oops, you'll have to use a 74act_ type as their "radio transmission capabilites" fall off at around 130MHz

To get even super easier, and more 'toy' like, build the LO at 50, build the IF at 50 and for the modulation voltage on the IF, your audio... and tune for the station frequency with a pot on the LO....

No, but really, you'll have to find the programming/selection capabilites of the PLL and plan your IF for that. TO get fancy, you'll need a PIC or other u-controller to talk to the PLL. Make your IF much lower than your stable LO.

This post brings back memories .....thanks

Hey u cannot do frequency modulation with pll.. U can only demodulate fm with plll... So better try using VCO or any other method to modulate and use pll to demodulate..

Sure you can if you pick your loop BW right
