question about ir module and phototrasistor !!

hi everyone ,
can i use an ir module (the one with 3 pins) instead of a phototransistor ,if yes, how can i do that , i mean what should i change ? whats the main diffrence between the 2 solution ?
 

What do you mean from 3 pin IR module?

1) It may be an IR phototransistor with base pin, OR
2) It may be and opto coupler

Hi hassenman,
Yes you can use it; the difference between the module and the photo transistor is that the module will give a lot more output. Instead of taking the output from the connection between V+ and the transistor, just take it from the output of the module, and tie the V+ connection on the module to 5v+. You should check the data sheet, though, as some modules call for a small capacitance between out and Vss.

No, leotim, it isn't an optocoupler, or a photo transistor with base connection. It is an IR module, and they are quite common.

ok thanks, i didn't really understood how should i connect the 3 pins (vcc ,out and GND ) and use only 2 of them , but i'm gonna get some datasheets and see if i will understand .

Hi,
It is kind of simple; just connect the ground to ground. Connect the Vcc to +5volts. The sensor outputs its data on the out pin. It will be a stream of pulses, depending on what you are using to trigger the module. (most remotes output a carrier frequency, if I remember, around 38kHz)
Again, the Vcc and ground are inputs, the out and ground are outputs. Hope that makes sense for you.
