serial communication between two microcontroller

I want to make serial communication between two microcontroller using IR.
but i donot want to use IR reciever moudels (from vishay) instead i want to use simple IR led as transmitter and IR photo-diode as reciever.
to decrease the cost.

make serial ir transmitter using vishay

Hi Nikhilele,

I have played with just IR LEDs, but it seems they can't do distance very well. How far apart do you want to have your micros? I think you may end up going with the modules, as they can do distance much better. In any case, you need to shield your rx part so it doesn't get ambient signals.

You will also have to encode your output, and decode when you receive. Manchester is probably the most common to use for this. I think Nigel Goodwin has a tutorial for doing this with PICs: http://www.winpicprog.co.uk

Hi,

Don't make it yourself but buy it smart :)

Opto-Sensor Taiwan: **broken link removed** cheapest IR transmitter diodes and receiver modules...

Paul.

Maybe you can use diferential Manchester too. Diferential Manchester has better synchronism.
