Is it possible to obtain IRR 50dB without calibration, considering PVT variation?
For 2GHz, Several MHz IF.

Re: Robust 50dB Image Rejection Ratio without any calibratio

Describe what you want to do in more detail.

What type of receiver? I+Q or normal? Double or single conversion?
What do you mean by "several MHz"? To me that means 2-5MHz

PVT is "process, voltage and temperature". Are you designing an IC?

When you say "without calibration" do you mean without alignment at the factory when the receiver is made?

In a normal receiver the bandpass fitlering in the front end of the receiver sets the image rejection ratio. If your first intermediate frequency is 5MHz you need the 2GHz filter on the input of your receiver to attenuate signals at either 1990MHZ or 2010MHz (depending on LO frequency) by 50dB. It is hard to make a filter that narrow and impossible without testing and alignment at some stage. You might be able to buy a filter module that has been ajdusted by the manufacturer.

Re: Robust 50dB Image Rejection Ratio without any calibratio

Let me refine my quesiton.
1. I adopt the Image rejection architecture rather than the preceded filter to
reject the image.
2. The conversion should be single conversion from RF to IF. And, do the image
rejection in the IF.
3. Any integrated image rejection method is welcome, such as polyphase filter,
complex filtering, dobule quadurate..etc
4. PVT is Process, Voltage, Temp variation.

Re: Robust 50dB Image Rejection Ratio without any calibratio

In RF application it is not possible to achieve production yield at 50dB w/o trimming or calibration.

If you use big area devices depending on the process a DC 3-sigma mismatch of 6.3e-3 is possible. This number gives -50dB.

But you want to use small devices for RF and some ps delay mismatch in the complex LO signal path would violate -50dB.

There is no other way than trimming for IMRR of 50dB at RF!
