sourceforge gerber viewer

Hi,
I am a CompE major student and would like to develop a Gerber viewer for my project. There are quite a fee Gerber viewers in the market, but I want to make a simple Gerber viewer reading the Gerber files and producing files for each layer.
I want to build the tool using C++.
Before I start I want to know what would be the better software to build a tool that would read the Gerber files and produce files showing layer by layer.

Thanks,
Minumula

Re: Gerber Viewer

Most viewers and CAM software are written in C++ - of course you'll need a copy of the RS274D & RS274X specification.

SiGiNT

There is an open source PCB design package out there somewhere, if you can find it reviewing it's source code might be of value.

Gerber Viewer

You might also find out what the nagging problems are with the other freeware viewers and fix them in yours :)

Good luck with the project & don't forget to include lots of copyright info in it otherwise we'll pinch it here...

Re: Gerber Viewer

I can not find a very good and free Gerber viewer online.

can any one recommend a free Gerber viewer.

I look forward to try Minumula's gerber.

Gerber Viewer

As CyberRat alluded too, there are a lot of good free gerber viewers out there, but they all of their little quirks. If you could combine all of the good features from each one, you could get a pretty good viewer (Same for PCB Design software).

GC Prevue is pretty good and if there is a free version of GerbTool (Which I think there is) that is also a nice tool

Re: Gerber Viewer

subspace,
you not find a good free gerber viewer on line ? I think it's very strange !

Please visit Pentalogix site and look well, you can download a Good free gerber viewer.
Moore good viewers exist, depend only to preference, for example you can try GC Prevue.

Skywalker.
