How does LC oscillator work?

Can anyone help me on how LC oscillators work, by some circuit examples? and explain why opamp is being used for it?

You will find lots of information using GOOGLE, but in short: The LC part forms a resonant circuit at the calculated frequency. Any resonant circuit will introduce phase shift. The phase shift introduced plus the added phase shift of the amplifier will cause oscillations when the signal is looped from output back to input. The total phase shift from output to input need to be 360° and all (losses + gain) around the loop should be >1 .Losses will come mainly from your LC selection. Those with higher loaded-Q (for more stable oscillator) will introduce more loss in the path. Gain comes from your active gain element which may be a transistor or opamp to ensure that total loop gain remains >1
