I want to build a simple wireless communication system. Can anybody suggest me where should i start. i have a good background of DSP. Can somebody also suggest the technology easy to work with. The system should be able to transfer voice signals.

Probably just pick up any project from some Universiti's
communication course and go ahead.

I am doing some research and facing a problem. I am trying to build a low cost simple wireless network whose nodes will be devices which use 8051 microcontrollers as processing units. The problem is that the 8051s used have very little ROM, only 4K which is not enough for implementing network stack. Plus we have time constrain which does not leave much time for us to implement MAC. Can any body suggest a good, yet low cost 8051 with MAC implemented. Plus any body can suggest some useful readings in my problem????

I am in NEED.

You does not need a mcu integrated with mac.
Some mac+phy ic has parallel interface for example cs8900a

I'd recommend ZigBee. Its a standardized wireless protocol that aimed at wireless communication in industries. Because of its limited scope, its a relatively simple standard.

You can find the standard on IEEE website. (IEEE 802.15.4)
