Do we have to puncture the data carriers for MIMO implementation of WiMax?

In mimo implementation of WiMax for implementing PUSC DL, are we supposed to puncture the data carriers? It is not clearly mentioned in the standard. By doing this, we will be dependent on FEC completely. Is that acceptable?

(Just for info):
Yes, i found that, we have to implement the framing by puncturing the data carriers in odd symbols for antenna 2,3.
