submicron or normal

In the mossis site there are technologies for submicron and normal. For example AMIS C5N, this is 0.5 u technology that propose both submicron and normal.
What is the advantage of submicron tech? and why the spce parameter are the same.
thanks

Re: submicron or normal

Submicron technology is a technology for smaller lambda like 0.25micron nad below like 0.18micron, some even consider 0.5 micron is submicron technology...

But when it goes as 90nano and below it's consider as sub deep micron @ nanotachnology.

well for a same parameter, same technolgy...the usual different between them is at the physical charateristic.

Submicron offers u smaller device, less power consumption, faster switching and much more but for the trade off of more chalanging design, where secondary effect is more critcal ( even more in nanotechnology )
