Hi

I've seen some pcb board gotta lot of vias on ground plane around pcb board edge.Do anyone can tell me exactly what does it assist to the ground plane electrically.

I heard of some guys tell me that it only done for RF purpose and some high speed application. Is it true?I'm doubt.

They call them stitching vias and they are put in to improve the coupling between the ground planes.
It helps for EMC compliance, stops fringing efects at the board edges?

It is also good for ESD events. If an ESD dischange appear in a connector, or in the case, a low inductance path to gnd is required, to surge the energy. It is critical to avoid flowing esd energy through the main circuit, it may destroy it.
