i want to interface adc to 8051 to sample voltage and current and calculate power is it better to start off with serial or parallel adc. please suggest some adc

Re: interfacing adc

Analog devices have a 8051 derivates with built in ADC.

Re: interfacing adc

That depends on the speed you need and the available number of IO lines on your micro. Serial A/Ds are very popular these days.

As a 12-bit A/D I can suggest the ADS7841 (4-ch) or ADS7844 (8-ch) from TI, very reasonably priced. The MAX1247 is pin-compatible with the ADS7844, but also includes an internal reference.
TI also offers pin-compatible 16--bit A/D's, the ADS8341 and ADS8344, but more expensive.
All of them are very good converters.
Use them with a good reference, such as REF198 (4.096V) from Analog Devices.

Re: interfacing adc

It's AC or DC Voltage would you want to sample? as AC power calculate there is a series of Power meter IC. it would work better.

Re: interfacing adc

hello

u can use c8051f005 which have built in adc
u can have the interface on 8051 tutorial sites
if u want to connect the adc chip then 0808 is good for it
keep on doing it best of luck

bye
