Eagle - How to make Single Sided PCB

eagle single sided pcb

Hi

I recently read a tutorial on Eagle & got to know atleast the basics of making a PCB design using software.
The auto-route feature in Eagle gives an efficient layer of tracks for a double-sided PCB. However a double sided PCB is very costly as compared to a single sided one (almost 5 times the price). I would like to know if there is any setting in the software, so that it maximizes the tracks on any one side, so that the few tracks on the other side can be connected using wires. (Normally there are approximately an equal number of tracks on both sides.) If there is any other s/w other than eagle which has this kind of single sided auto-routing feature, please let me know.

I have not used Eagle but my guess is each each net should have a routing layer property defined for it. you can set it so that the specified nets are routed on the top layer. But checkout this topic and post your question there, you should get immediate solution...regards

Sorry for late reply,

Find Protel 99SE. From schematic u can auto route a double layered PCB, if u want a one sided PCB disable auto routing and pick manual route.

Click one one node and the software will guide you to where it connected. Drawback is that u need to make the node one by one.

If u didn't get it, tell me again..I'll remember that I've got a PCB pad drawing software..but I've to search it first. Only compatible for simple design unless u got a lot of passion.

Protell is better that what i stated above.

As far as i know, with Eagle you can choose the properties for the autorouting, there you can select a lot of features, like distances from each path, how wide the path should be and a lot of more choices.

One of them is how many layers the PCB have. As u may see by now, the default is 2 layers.

Look for the autorouting properties.

For Eagle 4.13:
When you start the autorouter, click on the General tab and then set the top layer to N/A. If the board can be routed in a single layer, it will complete. If not, so connections will not be made.

You can also increase the cost of the routing on the top layer: click on the Route tab and set the cost for the top layer to a high number. That will place fewer traces on the top. You can then replace those with jumpers.
Similarly, you can increase the cost of the optimization steps.

Before clicking the "autorouter" first you have to make it easy for the program to find the best route by simply moving the components to the easiest way possible to route. then hit "autorouter". In General there will be "top" and "bottom"; change top to N/A and Bottom to any desired option but NOT N/A. the program will find the best route that is possible. then modify the board if there are flaws or things you don't like.
