programmer on virtual printer port

prolific pl-2305 lpt

there are many adapters from USB to printer port , based on PROLIFIC's chip PL-2305 (USB to IEEE 1284 Bridge Controller ) . Windows reports this as an virtual printer port . How can i use this adapter in programming microcontrollers in same manner as a classical printer port LPT1 or LPT2 ?

I have tried to use a USB to paralled convertor but it seems that you cannot do that. THe reason is that the new virtual paralled port does nor have a generic LPT I/O address which the programmer looks for.

It depends on programming S/W.

But usually many of programming S/W is using direct port I/O through PORTIO, or WINIO, In that case those programming S/W cannot ustilize the USB-to-LPT virtual port.
 

virtual printer support lpt

Most serial ports on USB that I have seen are quite transparent and they are undistinguishable for any software. But LPT does seem to be somewhat crooked.

I have understood that is impossible to use PL-2305 as an LPT port.
