Hyperterminal is a utility found in the Accessories folder of Windows. While it performs a variety of functions it is particularly useful for troubleshooting problems with your modem, testing of desing of serial port software.

if you know the AT command sets you can make good use of it...

I transfred files between two computers using modems without the internet. This shall remove the middle layer called TCP which gurantees error free data delivery.

To connect to a computer type ATD phonenumber

if you trype ATDT phonenumber the dialing shall be tone.

When the receiving computer running hyperterminal receives a ring the word RING appears on the HyperTerminal window.

Type ATA.

The connection is established.

Now send files and accept files.

AT stands for ATtention.
ATD - AT Dail
ATDT -ATD Tone
ATA - AT Answer.

Try quering your modem in the modem properties dialog box in the control Panels.

WIN2000:
Control Panels > Phone and Modem Options > Modem Tab > Select your Modem and click the Properties Button > In the diagonostic Tab, Click the query Modem Button.

Disconnect from the internet before doing so.

This shall give you some idea about a few more AT commands.

u can use hyper terminal to send file througt modem to else computer.

Widows HyperTerminal could be used for direct file transfer(Send, Receive) using modem and even for chat between two computer.

you have to do it yourself...

First dial...
The receiving computer that is getting an incoming call shall see the word "RING" on it's window...

The receiving computer operator should type ATA (AT Answer) and a connection is setup.

Then Send a file... The receiving operator sould accept it.

Not straightforward like email...

You can also connect to a IPC (serial connection) with hyperterminal.
