I have no idea about GAL 16V8, 20V8, 20V10. Please tell me how to begin learning these chips (books, programmming languages, programmer, tools)

Help the beginner

If you really need info on those old chips, then follow IanP's suggestions.

If you want to learn programmable logic in general, then I suggest starting with FPGA instead.

Re: Help the beginner

dqhuy,

Hardware approach
Understand the hardware architectures of 16V8 and 22V10 from datasheets and books on digital system designs or even digital logic designs.
- How many Macrocells, how many minterms supported, re-programmable cycles, supply voltage, no of inputs and outputs, etc.

Programming approach
1. Learn hardware description language - Verilog or VHDL
2. Learn how to write testbenches
4. Learn HDL development tool - Vantis Synario, ModalSim etc. These tools come with Simulator to validate the states, timing, glitches.
5. Learn about JEDEC format and programmer.

There are just too many authors who have written books on HDLs and programmable ASIC.
It's really your choice to pick which you like.
Wakerly has written some books.
Randy Katz too.
Ashenden too.
There are many more.
