mosfet stepper driver

hi,

Does anyone know have any idea or circuit about stepper motor driver using a mosfet? Can a 3.3V output from a microcontroller enough to saturate a 12V Vcc for Mosfet? Il be using the Mosfet as a switch, so can 3.3v input to the gate saturate the mosfet? il be using a unipolar stepper motor, so it has 4 coils.

stepper motor mosfet

Generally stepper motors have low power consumption, and driver for it it's not a problem. In this case is a good idea use a simple transistor with conderable gain, but if you wanna use a Mosfet, many of them accept use 3.3V, look threshold voltage at datasheet. But have some problems: the speed and power losses in mosfet depends directly of Vgs (as bigger better, attempting to maximum voltage), and Rg, i.e depend of charge time of internal Cgs and Cgd capacitances. And if Rg is small the peak current required is bigger than a uC I/O can source and sink. Look serie OMNIFET II of ST, it has low current consumption in gate and accepts your 3.3V, but it's more than you need ...

mosfet stepper driver circuit

Try this circuit, it's used to drive motors for robots and change their directions by a control signal from a microcontroller.

mosfet stepper motor

he is using a unipolar motor.

stepper driver mosfet

you can drive step motor with mosfet as like as bjt ,when a signal like as signal come from pc or micro the mosfet must be on and the signal can travell throw this part like switch or relay it is very nice !! isn't it?
you must bais mosfet for larg signal.. it is very easy easy than bjt.

@seadolphine2000 :

There should be shont diodes between drain and gate. The inverse emf shouldn't avoid turning.
