my job is rf and microwave system design, but I find it is very boring . so I wanna change my research field in SDR . but I donnt know how about it and if i should give up my job. who can give me some advice? thanks!!!

One of the trends is to do SOFT RADIOS with standartd PC EQUIPMENT
i found several projects of people trying to do the DSP part on PCs
see more GNURADIO .
The thing with this radios is FOR NOW the DSP components are too expensive compaired to normal analog radios. But ultimatly this technology will allow a lot of fredom in the future . like TV high def etc ..

I wanna research on DDC or DUC and some related technology such AGC DDS etc. in SDR. but I donnt know whether these tech mature and it is necessary to do it.

SDRs has become in Communication arena recently.
technology now has come up with high density and high speed FPGAs, which makes it easy for anyone to bring his concepts to reality.
Since FPGAs are programmable, u can always s/w btw diff commn stds...
so i feel, it's quite a good idea to do something wrt SDRS.
