siemens softnet

I dont understand the difference (softnet and simatic net) simatic net include softnet?, i search in aaall siemens and i didnt find anything, can someone explain me please.

softnet siemens

Simatic Net is the name of the 'complete' software package which, among other things, includes SoftNet.

SoftNet is (typically?) used for CP5611 cards (Communciation Processor card used for MPI/DP communication), which is fully software controlled. For every kind of protocol one wants to 'run' over this card, another SoftNet license is to be bought. For instance'SoftNet-S7' is needed for S7 communication, 'SoftNet-DP slave' if the card is to be used as DP slave, etc, etc.

softnet s7

If I am not mistaken there has recently been an update of Simatic NET (SIMATIC NET PC/Software Edition 2005 a.k.a. V6.3).

The following link is a PDF file with the supported operating systems:
**broken link removed**

Or, summarized:
Windows 2003 Server
Windows XP Professional
Windows 2000 Professional
Windows 2000 Server

There are probably more operating systems supported (e.g. Windows CE, Windows 2000 embedded etc).

Note that a specific service pack for these operating systems apply! For instance (using XP Professional as example), V6.2 requires SP1 whereas V6.3 requires SP2. If you have SP2 and want to use V6.2 then you have to 'downgrade' to SP1 first.
The bottom line is that the the software is very 'picky' about the (version of the) operating system.

For reference, this is how to get to the support area of Simatic NET on the Siemens site: https://support.automation.siemens.com -> Product support -> Communication/Networks -> Simatic NET Industrial Communication
