During post-route timing optimization in Encounter, I get the error message, "Power/Ground pin is floating!". What does this error message mean? Verify -> Geometry reports no violations. I also ran the following command, "globalNetConnect VDD -pin VDD -inst * -type pgpin -all -override" (and same for GND) before special route of the power rings. Thanks for your help.

make sure the VDD pin of the std cells is actually called VDD. make sure sroute clompleted. if you have IOs, make sure you have connected them correctly.

The pins are VDD and GND. I searched the LEF file for "USE POWER/GROUND". However, there seems to be other VDD/GND pins as well with other names. Can I use just any VDD/GND pin?

course not. go figure out why there are other power pins. could be something silly like a well, or could be the source of all your issues.
