I am designing a voltage source and thinking to use encoder to increase or decrease the voltage.

Confused which encoder to be used. since lots of varieties are available like absolute, incremental, ....

Please help.

Re: which encoder to be used.........

The usual, lowest cost and the easiest to implement is probably an incremental encoder driving an up down counter.
Its then pretty easy to arrange the counts per turn, and number of total turns for any scale and knob sensitivity you like.

Its also simple to arrange for the up down counter to automatically be set to zero at initial power up, wherever the knob position happens to be.

Hi,

There are ready to use encoder ICs.
You could use microcontroller --> code is available
You ciuld use a CPLD or an FPGA --> code is available

ALPS makes a lot of those encoders.
The most common are incremental with quadrature output and with a push button.

Bourns has also many reliable encoders.
