How to disable sections of Orcad Capture schematics so they are not netlisted?

I have a large design and there are sections of it that need to be disabled before netlisting it so that they are not sent to the PCB design software.
Are there any ways to "gray out" sections of the schematic so they're ignored and not netlisted? I just don't want to have to save a different version with that section deleted.

Thanks.

This begs the question : Why do those parts of the schematic you don't want exist to begin with? You've created a pcb project, but part of it is not a pcb project?
It seems that the simple solution would be to create a second version of your schematic with the part you don't want deleted.

Unless I cam getting this confused with Altium (I am frequently in both) I believe there is a way to do this, but it escapes my memory at the moment.

You could also do variants of the PCB schematic - though that is generally used for stuff/no-stuff or alternate components/values and the same nets and artwork are usually preserved.

I will have to dig into it when I have some spare time.

Not really a very helpful answer but here's your answer. Anyone that has a lot of experience designing electronics will be faced sometimes with devices that have two or more versions. In this case the device has a version with and another without an output amplifier. In the one without we want the board to be smaller. What I have read about versioning it only works for marking boms with parts as not placed but the board netlist still contains the parts with their footprints.

That's what I would assume. I'm new to Cadence but I would be surprised if they didn't have a solution to this common problem.

Oh another thing as to why I don't want to have two different schematics is because when changes arise from prototype testing I want to do updates to a single schematic file and not have to depend on not forgetting to update the other version.

I could *swear* that I saw one of the OrCAD trainers demonstrate how to do this during a training session I was in ~1 year or so ago, but for the life of me cannot seem to recall it or find it specifically mentioned. Maybe I was daydreaming?
It might not do what you want, but I think you could also select / make a "group" of objects in the schematic editor, and add a property to all the objects in the group. The property would be "PSpiceOnly" set to TRUE , and all objects with that property should be omitted from the PCB netlist and BOM. But that is a clunky way to do it and it may not work the way you want.

I will see if I can do more experimenting next week when I am back in the office. Maybe someone here will figure it out soon.

If you want to keep the nets in the design/PCB, but have alternate parts (variants) to the schematic, these videos show how to do that in CIS:

Can you put the unwanted parts on a seperate sheet and only transfer the other sheets to the PCB?

There is no option to leave a sheet out of the netlist that I'm aware of.

Then it would appear that for what you want - which is 2 completely different boards - you cannot do this.
You must do a save as under a differerent name and delete the unwanted sheet or information.

It is 2 different designs requiring 2 different schematics.
I can do what you want within CADSTAR as I am able to select the sheets I want to use, if ORCAD cannot do that then you have to create a seperate design and keep track of any changes seperatly.

Hi,

Software used - ORcad Schematic v16
I just tried a simple method to keep a 5 Pin connector out of netlisting .
What I did was --> go to the 5 Pin connector properties,on the bottom end you can see various tabs like --Schematic nets---Flat nets etc-->Amongst these tabs is a tab called as Pins which when u click will display a table containing of the 5pins and their respective nets.
What you can do so that it doesn't netlist is tick mark the "Is No connect" option available in the rows. Thus making sure that it doesn't netlist.
Or further more you can remove the net name and give it a "-".

Pardon me for my bad English but hopefully I conveyed my message and it worked out well for you.

Thanks

One schematic per board is the standard and best way of working, no package allows for what you want without messing about. You can create variant assemblies on a PCB, but the only way for proper document control etc. is one pertinent schematic per PCB.
Like Cyberrat I can leave sheets out in my software, but in over 30 years of doing this stuff I have never seen one schematic used for two different PCB designs, ever, including the bureau work I have done over the years so a wide variety of companies and designs from top end to cheap and cheerful and made in the millions. It will not really work from a control point of view so better to do the job properly.

You would have to change the schematic for each design, to much chance of error and the schematic would never match both PCBs...

A schematic view is represented by some symbol on the higer view in hierarchy.
If you change the property of that symbol and make it not-hierarchical, then underlying schematic will not netlist.
