Hi,

While generating a cell-library database of power grid views in voltus (cl views), it says we need a spice netlist as well, so that spice can simulate it and the decoupling capacitance can be found.

As far as I know spice is a circuit simulator, it can simulate a circuit and solve for electrical quantities like voltage, current etc at different points of interest in the circuit.

Then how can spice generate the decoupling capacitance, it is not an extraction tool, if I am correct......

Request an explanation.....thanks in advance.

Aditya

the spice netlist is extracted with the power_extract meaning that the VDD and VSS are extracted. then the tool goes and runs simulations to estimate how much cap is offered by the VDD/VSS at the chip. if the metal cap + device cap on the vDD network is XfF. Then if you place five of these cells in the chip, it will give you 5X at the chip level from these 5cells. Voltus tool is able to do this using spice netlist and .libs( from which it takes the functionality of the cell). Hope that helps
