Hi everyone,

I am using a PIC18f45k22 chip for Variable Phase angle firing of SCRs.
I am not using a TRIAC but instead connecting 2 SCRs back to back for commutation and other reasons.
I tried doing this with an Random Phase Opto Isolator MOC3021.
But later got to know that MOC only drives TRIACs...
Could any be kind enough in suggesting some other isolation driver for my SCRs???
I am using 230V 50Hz supply...
If anyone needs any more details plz leave a reply...

Thank You.

Hi,

I´d say the MOCs can drive SCRs also.
Why do you think they can only drive triacs?

For sure you need two MOCs for two SCRs.

Klaus

Hi Klaus,

I am not able to find any example circuit neither on Google nor anywhere else with SCR driven by MOC...
All the circuits tend to only be driving the TRIACs, even the datasheet examples and application notes which I found...
Have you come across any sample circuit with SCR & MOC, please send me?

Thank You.

The same circuit should work.

If you look at the data sheet for the MOC3041 it shows you how to drive two SCRs back-to-back. The same configuration should work for the MOC3021 and you only need one of them!

Brian.

Hi Brian,
I tried using MOC3021 same like MOC3041...
but it doesnt seem to give an expected output...
Do you have any other possible solution in mind??
How can I make an Isolation circuit for my SCR Gate???
Thank you...
