Electronic components supply

Hello everyone. I don't know if this is an adequate section to post on, but I didn't find any other.


My "problem" is, I am looking for electronic components stores in Miami, Florida. I did search it and I found several of them, but when I go to their pages they only sell i.e: power products, Air conditioners, speakers and auto audio amplifiers, etc...

I found a "jameco" (I heard about it a time ago) but I think their prices are pretty high, for example, an LM358AN is US$0.25. 1N4148 is 0.04!!!, 0.02 is the price in ALiexpress, for instance. Very high prices, even where I live I find them cheaper, it cannot be.

Also RadioShack, I saw 2 or 3 prices and I got really really scared (LM324 for US$2.49).

Do you know any store? I am going to be there in about a week, and I'd like to buy many things there, if the prices are not as high as I mentioned.

Allied Electronics are in Tampa, Miami and Orlando, it looks like they have two out of three shops there, they work with RS-Online, who not only do online but also have shops around the UK, so maybe AE work the same way in the US, price-wise, I couldn't say anything, RS is really good and fast, and stock a bit of everything electronic/automation.

These days can we trust the really inexpensive vendors?

To get zero cost components, it's hard to beat the time-honored practice of scavenging old equipment. However I was only lucky I didn't injure myself, as I took risks with tools removing components. In retrospect 4-cent diodes could be a bargain.

Have you looked at discount mail order stores such as All-Electronics? (And also Hosfelt but their website is down.) To reduce the proportion taken up by the high shipping cost, I would wait until I gathered a massive order, or else I included an expensive item in my order.

Well, here I can buy components by just the same price than in this pages, so I don't know if it would be useful at all to but them in Miami. Can I trust? Well... it's not such a long time I've been buying in this place, but all the components I bought are very good quality ones, they should be original. I did only buy low power components, slow op amps, some transistors... Maybe a high power component would fail if it wasn't original...

I don't know how you buy components in other places, but here I go to a store with a list and I start to tell the employee which component I want, or I make an order and go to the same place to pick it up.

I'd like to buy for example 50pcs of resistors from 1R to 100R each, and 100pcs from 100 to 1Meg each. In 0603, 0805 and 1206. The same for capacitors... It's that I never feel I like I had enough components despite I actually have, but all we know that when working in a project and you need that 56R resistor, it's the only one you don't have, it's so so annoying

I looked at the web link you posted, nice shop, but only compared one part - TI PDIP 7106 ADC (sycelectronica) to Microchip PDIP 7106 ADC (RS-online UK web), and the price is virtually the same. Isn't Argentina as expensive as average European country, like Chile is supposed to be?

Allied Electronics is a reputable company, I think it's more the chancing it on buy/sell websites or obscure one-man-show shops that are owned by cowboys where you risk fake or shoddy parts.

Is it possible to place an order online for all those resistors from any of the usual choices of online shop and have them delivered to your home or where you'll be in Miami? It would seem the simplest way of compiling a list, comparing price/ minimum quantity, minor differences between different makes, etc.

One idea is to look online for electronics supermarkets in Miami before you go, there are good ones everywhere that may not have a huge online service, and read reviews/Google information about them if you are concerned about trust.

I like going to shops, keeps society alive, but usually for components online shopping is the way to go - endless datasheets to check you aren't making a bad choice and it's easier to compare parts and prices.

That 56R resistor that you don't have - this hobby is actually worse than DIY in that respect (e.g. never have the exact screw, or precisely one less than necessary to finish a job) there's Murpy's Law, and there's always Component's Law, eh!

Yes, it is very expensive, but for things that common people will buy. There are expensive components too, but this shop is excellent. I don't know about other countries.

Finally I ordered via Amazon, I found out they have lockers to deliver your packages, so you don't have to be at your place to get it, even better
