[HFSS] E-Field inside a defined structure for Eigenmode solver

Hello!

I am using the Eigenmode solver in HFSS. I have a waveguide and want to calculate the E-Field inside of a cylindrical portion inside the waveguide. This cylindrical structure shouldn't influence the waveguide, but unfortunately, I can't assign radiation boundaries with the Eigenmode solver. I tried to define it as a non-model structure, but in that case field calculations with the calculator are not possible.

Any suggestions?

I don't know if this could be useful for you, but when I want to calculate a field inside a cavity in Eigenmode, I usually define a line inside the portion considered, and along the direction in which I want to see the field, and then evaluate the field along that line, by doing this:

Results -> Eigenmode parameters report -> rectangular plot

then in the Context part I select the geometry along which I want HFSS to calculate the field (in this case a defined line, but it could be a surface), and then Calculated Expressions -> Mag_E (if one wants electric field).

Of course you can also do this with calculator: this is useful and quick if you have to evaluate the field on a large number of defined geometries. Just make a script!

I see what you mean. It is a useful tool, but unfortunately, I don't see a way to do the same thing, but with a volume instead of a line.
 

Doesn't work, for me at least. The error message even states explicitly: "No plot can be generated because only non-model objects and/or faces have been selected." Besides, I want to do calculations, not only plot fields.
 

The line you define is only there to give the calculator a distance along which calculate the field. Of course the calculation takes in account the 3D object and the relative mesh definition. With this method you can non only plot the field, but also do calculations either by exporting the 2D plot or using the integrated Calculator.

I'm using this method to evaluate with relative high precision (depending on the mesh) the electric field along the beam axis of a Drift Tube Linac, that is essentially a pillbox cavity. Results are quiete good.
 

To create a non model object to plot fields always work I am sure there must be some mistake in your realization
