In place edit of the layout in Cadence Virtuoso

I need to create a layout using a bunch of existing components and some custom layout . However when I finalize the layout and do DRC, I get lots of violations which requires me to edit the layout of the instances of those existing components. When I try to in place edit the components, it tells me that you are not able to edit as they are only read only..Does anyone have an idea how I can handle that?
 

Copy these existing components each to a (slightly) changed name and put them into an accessible lib. Then use these copies and edit them.
