Hi,

I have a few questions about inserting filler cells between the standard cells. When I am trying to insert some filler cells I am receiving this type of warning:

Cell <FILL64> is not of std filler cell subtype. I tried all the Filler cells in my library, and I got the same message.

Also when I am removing these filler cells, I am receiving this message:

INFO: Total (0 std fillers, 102622 spare cells, 0 pad fillers, 0 tap cells, 0 end Caps) purged
Successfully purged all std cell filler

I am wondering to know if this spare cells means same as std cell filler? because here it shows 0 std fillers have been removed!

I have one more question about the type of these filler cells. How can I find out whether they are with metal or with out? because in the command line that I am using I have to be specific about their types. I couldn’t find any information in the data sheet.

Any help would be appreciated in advance.

fillers and spares are not the same. you are likely using them incorrectly.

"How can I find out whether they are with metal or with out?"
if they are filler cells, they must have metal for density issues. your question leads me to believe you don't understand the concept of filler cells.

1. To check FILLER, please check your library level LEF file.
There for FILLER's you will define a particular CLASS
eg: MACRO FILL1
CLASS CORE SPACER ;
...

You can go through the different classes to understand the Category of the cells in the design

Adding from Comments @ThisIsNotSam :
2. Spare cells. Terms might differ. In some context, these mean ECO cells.

3. Fill cells are used for Continuity purpose. So Metal should be present to provide the VDD/VSS rail.
You can open Lef file to check whether the Metal is present in FILL cell section

Above are taken care with EDI tool. If you are using Synopsys, you can check MW FRAM view for the same.
