Hi All,

I have a small size PCB (18X24mm) that include a MEMS IC (Invensense MPU-9250).
The PCB installed on system that preform shocks (impacts).
For some time now i get a "gyro stuck " whenever a the PCB gets a high angular speed/acceleration and high acceleration/jerk.( It appears randomly)
i added some pictures of the plots that i get from gyro y and gyro x direction at the first and third high speed movement. (picture 2 is a zoom in of picture 1)

I'm trying to figure out what caused the problem but without success.

It would be greatly appreciated if you help me.

Re: Invensense MPU-9250 gyro stuck

Is is powered by the correct voltage? Polarity?

Does the 'stuck' condition affect the power supply so it goes out of spec?

Can't say I know what's inside the device, so it's a guess whether something mechanical gets stuck, or something electrical. The electrical problem might be an op amp going into latchup, or a signal subjected to overmuch gain so it gets pinned to some maximum value, etc.

Hi brad

thank you for your respond.

the 9250 powered with 3.3V (i have a 3.3V LDO)
i read the data from the 9250 with an I2C bus. the strange thing is that the "stuck" appears only after an impact from the system. when i tried to simulate an impact outside my system i dont get this stuck on gyro y.

Re: Invensense MPU-9250 gyro stuck

The description implies there are spinning gyroscopes inside the IC. If true, and if they are like a normal gyroscope, then they do funny things when you try to turn them. It is a physical reaction produced by their angular momentum being disturbed.

An impact can cause it to twist to a different orientation, and stay that way. This might account for the 'stuck' condition. Come to think of it, it's not likely for gyroscopes inside an IC to change orientation. But how can we be sure?
