recently i build led board that works on 5v. and as simple i use 7805 for prototype.but what about higher amount of current?
i have option for 5v-10_or_20amp SMPS. but i have already 12v with enough current source.so how to regulate them?

If you are regulating 12v down to 5v there will be a lot of heat.
Its not so bad with a 1 amp regulator.

You could replace it with an LT1038 regulator which is 5v 10 amp, but it will require a much larger heat sink.

Another alternative might be an LM396 which is an adjustable 10 amp regulator.
