I want to know if someone have any document or software to design muti-section firectional coupler? I use tunneling diode to detect RF power.

Second, I had designed log amplifer to transform RF power to DC voltage. What's differents between Directional detector and log amplier? I mean they both can transform RF to DC.

Thanks.

ps. I'm going to apply PH.D. in USA. My background is that.

A. Narror band superconductor filter (<1%) and Rx system
B. Ultra low noise LNA(1.9GHz NF<0.5 )
C.Ka band MMIC --> LNA and PA(1W)
D.Log amplifier
E.Ka band Rx
F. linear attenuator 0.1V for 1dB for high speed response time(<100ns)
G. X band VCO

Can you give me some advices on which group you know is suitable for me?

hi,
I think you can find something on Matthei book.

A Directional Detector is a detector (i.e. square law diode) firmly connected to a coupled arm of a directional coupler. It's a "passive" component.

A log detector is a dectector , used to extend the limited dinamic range of the diode detector. Usually used on Spectrum Analyzers. It's an active circuit. Usually the accuracy is limited to +/- 1 dB
Miteq produce high end log detectors and log amplifiers, while Maxim do low cost log detectors chip
