recommend me a step down switching regulator

hi guys, my power supply is a car battery 12v and i have to step down to 3.8v with these current restrictions
Peak (worst case): 2.5A
Continuous (worst case): 650-700 ma
the question is what's the adequate step down regulator that i can use to feet these restrictions?
 

One option is a buck converter. These are carried by electronics supply houses (or Ebay if you feel like taking a chance).

You can also construct your own converter. It is built around an inductor. Perhaps you can scrounge the correct kind. Or to wind your own inductor is discussed as a frequent project here.

here is a basic buck for you which goes from vin=12v to vout=3.8v....it uses the free ltspice simulator whch is from linear.com...just convert the file to .asc instead of .txt...then open it in ltspice, then hit the running man icon. Ensure the file is in a folder on your hard drive. (it wont run well over a network)

Hi,

Many switchin regulatur IC manufacturers have interactive selection guides on their internet sites.

Use them.

It's difficult to recommend "the one" out of thousands switching regulators without knowing details about your application.

Yes, as in the recom example above , there are many co's making smps modules...eg recom, delta, vicor, , synqor, traco, etc etc...these are often with an adjustable output that you can set with adding two resistors......to get eg your 3.8v.
