Hi
we are using the SMPS power supply for our security system. In India particularly in the Kerala state we are getting Hydro powered electricity. Regularly SMPS power supply getting fault in this state when compare with the other states of India(there we are getting different electric power(Goal). If we use transformer type linear power supply there we are not getting complaints (very less). How to come across this problem. please give us the best Suggestion
Thanks

You must find out why your hydro electric is upsetting the SMPSs. Is the voltage wrong or the frequency wrong. I have come across industrial size (250kW) maintained supplies which do not recognise the incoming mains if its more then 1% off frequency.

Power surges are likely the cause, but brownouts could also explain failures. This likely has nothing to do with means of generating the power (hydro/coal), but rather the competence of the people running the hydro/coal plants, the quality of the transmission infrastructure, and perhaps nearby facilities which disturb the grid. For example if you are near an industry which consumes huge amounts of power (like a foundry with an arc furnace), then expect to see much greater fluctuations in you grid.

But basically the problem is not about coal or hydro, it's about everything else in the bigger picture. Both are used across the world with great success, likely due to better infrastructure.

Been there, done that, back in the 1980s in Mexico.

There are powerline analyzers which have data logging capabilities. These will tell you exactly what is going on.
There are many powerline disturbances: voltage surges and sags, flicker, harmonics, frequency fluctuations, noise....the list is long.

Purchase or lease one.
Once you find what the problem is, then you may apply the proper solutions. Otherwise, all we can do is guess.
