Agp malfunction

Hello!
Can anyone give me a hint about this :
My graphics card is working only with 2x agp factor(instead of 4x)!
Motherboard Gigabyte 7DXE: 4x
Graph. card Asus 9180SE: 8x, latest drivers.
Now this could be interesting : in the past it used to work with 4x factor, until my
power switching source exploded.
Could this latter mess be the explanation?
Can I figure out what's wrong? I tried many benchmarks, they all say that the actual configuration is the right one(that's what I bought).

Thank you!
