I apologise for the really newbie question, but just to confirm - if I wanted to attach a crystal oscillator to a transformer, I would attach the two leads (of one of the coils) to the output, and to 0v?

Yes, but normally one wouldn't connect the output of a crystal oscillator directly to a transformer unless it was tuned to the oscillator frequency. Can you describe the scenario in more detail please.

Brian.

It's likely that you would want to DC-block (capacitor) the
output unless you have a complementary output pair (as
some ECL based oscillators provide). It's probably a good
idea to put a buffer between the oscillator and the xfmr
if you are at frequencies (or load inductance) that would
draw more than a couple of mA.
