Hi, once upon a time I have experimented with an LDR ans a light modulated LED pointing towards it. This made a small audio amplifier stage.

Does anyone have any documents related to this type of amplifier (that is not mentioned in wikipedia anyway).

LDR is a bad choice their reaction time is relatively slow so they are not good beyond low audio frequencies. A photodiode or phototransistor is good to hundreds of KHz and PIN devices up to several GHz!

The principle certainly works but most people opt for laser diodes rather than normal LEDs because they don't need complicated focussing optics.

Brian.
