hello,
I want to drive a 500 MS/s DAC from an ARM processor.
I have found that TS-7800 can run at 500MHz.

if the processor speed is 500MHz can I assume that the IO speed can be similar to processor speed?

Hi,

I don't think so. One point is, that most likely the IO transfer rate of almost any microcontroller is below 100MHz.

The other thing is, that most likely the 500MHz ADC interface is no LVCMOS parallel interface... i rather expect a PECL or multi lane LVDS interface ... and maybe with pipelined data output format.

Are you sure you found a 500MHz sampling rate ADC?
Often ADCs have this high analog frequency bandwidth, but a much lower data throughput. This is useful for "undersampling" technique.

Klaus, he means DAC, not ADC. But anyway, he don't feel any difference between core frequency and interface speed. He should think about using FPGA to drive so fast DAC. But it is a completly another story...

Hi, Easyrider83

ooops, you are right....
Then problems are a little smaller..

but nothing to test on a breadboard.. it´s a challenge.

Hi,

The given ADC has a LVDS interface. So i'd go for an FPGA.

But real time processing is almost impossible.
Therefore you need a RAM to save the data and process later.

You should be experienced in high speed analog design, FPGA design, and you need good high speed PCB design experience.
