Research in Correlation in video processing

I am doing my research on Video Processing, When there two camera which has overlapped Field of view correlation methods is used to compress or send the video in a manner which reduce redundancy.

I Don't know where to start and
I need basics knowledge to be learned,From where I need to start?
and is the research in this area is valuable?
